CapScroll Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 14, 2026
CapScroll does not send your data anywhere. Everything it handles stays in your own browser on your own device. This policy explains what the extension accesses, where it keeps it, and how you can delete it.
1. What this policy covers
This policy applies to the CapScroll browser extension for Google Chrome ("the extension"). It does not cover the websites you capture or any other software.
2. Information the extension accesses
The extension only works when you start a capture yourself (from the toolbar popup or a keyboard shortcut). It then accesses the following, and only for that tab:
- What the tab shows on screen. The extension takes screenshots of the page as it scrolls and joins them into one image. For a region, element or scroll area capture, it keeps only the part you selected.
- The page layout. A script runs in that tab during the capture to scroll the page, measure its size and let you pick a region or element. It does not collect the text, form contents or other data of the page.
- The tab's title and address. The address is stored without the part after
?or#(search terms, tokens and similar), and without any user name or password in it. - What you add in the editor. Shapes, text, crops, blurred or pixelated areas and similar edits.
- Your settings. Language, what happens after a capture, maximum capture height, number of captures to keep and your save options (format, quality, size and similar).
The extension does not access your browsing history, cookies, passwords, or any tab you have not captured.
3. Where the information is stored
Everything is stored only in your browser, on your device:
- IndexedDB (the extension's own database): captured images, page titles and addresses, your edits and the thumbnails shown on the history page.
chrome.storage.local: your settings and language, your save options and whether the welcome card has been dismissed.chrome.storage.session: the most recent error message, so the popup can show it. Chrome clears this when the browser closes.localStorageof the extension's pages: a temporary copy of your latest edits, kept so they are not lost if a tab closes before they are saved. It is removed once the edits are saved to the capture history or the capture is deleted.
The extension has no server and makes no network requests. Nothing is sent to the developer or to anyone else.
Images you save as files or copy to the clipboard leave the extension at your request. After that they are handled by your computer and the apps you use, not by this policy.
4. How the information is used
The information is used only to show your captures, let you edit, save and copy them, and keep the capture history on the history page. It is not used for any other purpose.
The use of information handled by CapScroll adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
5. Sharing, selling, ads and analytics
The developer does not collect, receive, sell, rent or share your information. The extension contains no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party code that sends data anywhere.
6. Permissions and why they are needed
activeTab: to capture only the tab where you started a capture, and only at that moment. The extension has no access to websites otherwise.scripting: to run the capture script in that tab (scrolling, measuring the page, selecting a region or element).storage: to remember your settings and save options.unlimitedStorage: to keep long captures in the capture history on your device.offscreen: to make the image in a hidden page when you choose to copy or save right after a capture without opening the editor.clipboardWrite(optional): requested only if you set "After capture" to "Copy to clipboard", so the image can be copied without an extra click. You can decline it or turn it off at any time. The editor's Copy button works without it.
The extension does not ask for access to websites (host permissions).
7. Keeping and deleting information
- The capture history keeps as many captures as the "Captures to keep" setting allows (50 by default). When you save a new capture beyond that number, the oldest ones are deleted.
- You can delete a single capture, or all of them, on the history page at any time.
- Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything it has stored.
- Incognito windows: if you allow the extension in Incognito, captures taken in an Incognito window are never added to the capture history. Their page title and address are not kept either. The capture is held in memory only until the editor opens it, and is cleared after 2 minutes if it is not opened.
8. Children
The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
9. No warranty
The extension is provided "as is", without any warranty, under its license, the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any loss or damage arising from its use, including lost captures.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page and the effective date at the top will be updated.
